Journey to a Better Body and a Better Me

Starting Fresh~

I woke up today with a fresh outlook on life and a new perspective of what I need to do to get to where I want to be.  I just got out of a toxic relationship and I have spent the last week crying and feeling sorry for myself.  When you wake up to the same person for over a year and they are suddenly gone for good, it is painful.  But I lost who I was before my relationship, I became a part of a couple with no identity of my own.  After binge eating, drunken Snapchat rants, waiting for a call I will never get, and motivating talks with amazing friends, I am ready to embrace this new chapter of my life.  I don’t want this blog to be about my personal life so I will leave it at that.  But, what’s a better way to get over a bad breakup than snatching the hell out of your body?  No matter where you are in your journey, love yourself.  We are beautiful, we are amazing, and we can do it!

Follow me as I get back into shape and slay the world!  I will try and update my progress as much as I can!

My Bad Habits

I honestly have no idea what I'm doing.  I’m not a health and fitness guru, but I do know stopping my bad habits is a good place to start.

  • ·Smoking.  It is by far my worst habit and I don’t even need to list the reasons why.  As I am typing, I am chain smoking my last pack.   T_T  Smoking takes up a ton of my time and makes me feel lazy.  I am going to quit now.
  • ·Caffeine.  I don’t have an addictive personality but I am so addicted to caffeine.  I drink a few cups of coffee or have a few energy drinks every day.  Excessive caffeine is bad for your heart and energy drinks contain sugars and chemicals that are horrible for you.  I also noticed that my anxiety spikes and it causes insomnia.  This is going to be tough, I can’t cold turkey caffeine like I can cigarettes.  I’ll try and only drink coffee and drink more green tea.
  • ·Sleep.  Back to sleep, I don’t do much of it.  I tend to stay up all night looking up useless stuff on my phone.  I end up feeling gross and sluggish at work, I take a nap after work, and restart the cycle.  It leaves me no real time to do much else and I don’t have the time or energy to work out.
  • ·Eating.  God, I love pizza.  I don’t eat much during the day, but I get off work and eat one or two whole frozen pizzas before bed.  I am so bad!  I used to only eat Korean food but it’s expensive and time-consuming to prepare.  This will definitely be the hardest habit to kick.  It is way easier for me to exercise than it is for me to diet.  You need both to be in the best shape.  If anyone has any budget-friendly, low maintenance, healthy meal guides please let me know!  I’ll try and come up with some of my own.

Cutting down and eliminating these things will do wonders for your body, health, and skin.  Your inner beauty will start to show on the outside.

Where I’m at Now

I have always been quite athletic.  I started martial arts when I was 5, I played sports in school, I was a cheerleader in high school, and I even took yoga and Pilates classes while in college.  Now I work full time and I don’t have much time or energy.   I am getting back into yoga and Pilates and getting back to the gym.  I found amazing yoga and Pilates videos on YouTube.  The channel I watch is called Boho Beautiful.  She makes gorgeous HD videos on beaches and at other exotic locations.  She has a video that targets every area.  Her voice is relaxing and her videos are easy to follow, even for beginners.  I am not being sponsored or paid to say this, but I am literally obsessed.  I tell all of my friends about her channel because her videos are so amazing!  I will include her links at the bottom of this post.

Measurements and Stats

Height: 5’6/ 170cm

Weight: 152lbs/ 68kg (I have lost about 7lbs/ 3kg in the last week but not healthily)

Body Fat %:  I’ll update when I know

Chest: 40.5in/ 102cm

Waist: 30in/ 76cm

Hip: 38in/ 96cm

I’m not at the worst starting point but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Goals

So now that I have singled out my bad habits and established my current progress, it is time for goals!  I want to lose fat.  I don’t want to focus too much on “losing pounds.”  The number on the scale isn’t really indicative of the shape you are in.  If I’m going to put a number out there I would like to be around 130lbs.  Again, I’m really not going to focus on that.  My measurements are what I’m really wanting to change.  I want to gain 5in on my chest, about 7in on my hip, and shave off 4in from my waist.  If I can get toned and achieve those measurements, I will be happy with whatever weight I am at.  I have a V-shape body type already but I want to really accentuate that and look better in my clothes.  I hope to achieve this by my birthday, June 28th.  Cancer baby!

Tips

  • Figure out your unhealthy habits and create a plan to end them.
  • Set goals and realistic expectations on when you hope to achieve them by.
  • Keep track of your progress and reassess your goals constantly.  As you change and make progress, your needs and goals may change as well.  Be open to all possibilities.
  • Get motivated.  For me, channeling all of the energy I’m using on being sad and angry into productivity is the most helpful.  I also follow a lot of fitness people on Instagram and it inspires me to do better.
  • Get a workout buddy.  It’s helpful to have a little push to get your ass off the couch and into the gym, someone who will hold you accountable for working out.  If you are with someone, get them to work out with you.  It will give you quality time together and improve your relationship.   Working out has a great effect on your sex life.  😉
  • Make time for you.  When you’re in your 20s life is hectic and you are probably juggling a million different things.  No matter how busy you are, you can spare 30 minutes of your day to exercise.
  • Work out at home.  Gyms can be intimidating, expensive, and an extra commute.  There are a million videos and at home exercise guides out there, I’ll share some on my social media.
  • Dress for Success.  Buy some new outfits for the gym.  I am most confident when my outfit is on fleek!  It’s a worthy investment.
  • Reduce Stress.  Yeah, easier said than done.  I know!  Get more sleep and try meditating.  It won’t solve all of your problems but you need to give your mind a break from them.
  • ·Tell the haters to suck a D.  There will always people who will try and block your success and tell you that you can’t do something.  Sometimes you are your own worst enemy.  If you become your greatest ally then nobody can stop you.
  • Be mindful of your body.  If something doesn’t feel right, don’t push yourself.  Progress won’t happen overnight and taking care of your health is priority.  DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF, EVER!
  • Stay away from magic pills and potions!  As far as I know, there are no magic pills or potions that will get you into shape without your own hard work.  If I find one, I'll share it with you.
  • ·Be happy and thankful for your progress.  I said before to keep track of your goals and progress, but don’t obsess.  Be thankful for where you’re at and excited for where you want to be.
  • Love yourself.  This so cliché, but it’s the best tip I’ve got.  Happiness and confidence beats outward beauty.  People who love themselves attract other positive people.
